Michelle Keske

Professor Keske has been a dedicated researcher in the diabetes and cardiovascular disease fields for the past 22 years. She is internationally recognised for her contribution to the study of muscle microvascular blood flow and her expertise in the development of techniques to assess microvascular blood flow in vivo in humans and animals. Her research strongly implicates microvascular dysfunction in skeletal muscle in the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and exercise intolerance. She received her PhD from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Tasmania in 2000. She completed 8 years of international post-doctoral training at the University of Virginia, National Institutes of Health and private industry in the USA. In 2007 she was recruited from the USA to the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania to start an independent research group. In 2017 she was recruited to Deakin University as part of a strategic research investment by the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN). She has opened a new program of research into cardiovascular medicine and the establishment of the new research group ‘Biology of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health’.
